DETAILS OF
OUR SURFACE FINISHES
Bright Chrome
The most common form of chrome plating is the thin, decorative
bright chrome, which is typically a 10 µm layer over an
underlying polished nickel plate. It has a silver/blue mirror
finish appearance to it. This type of finish is what you see on
metal bumper bars. If prepared correctly, you should see your
own reflection in it.
Satin or Brushed
This is a finish which has a stainless steel appearance to it.
You can actually see thegrains
running through the metal. It has this appearance due to the
type of polishing preparation.
Semi Bright Nickel
This is a dull nickel very rarely seen as a finished form. It is
predominantly used as a base
coat prior to using bright nickel for automotive industry
standards. When something is plated in semi bright then bright
nickel it is commonly known as duplex nickel.
Bright Nickel
When standing alone, bright nickel could appear to look like
bright chrome, however, next to chrome it has a more yellow
tinge to it. It is always used as a base prior to chrome and is
often used on its own on vintage car parts.
Hard Gold Plating 22 Carat
It has a yellow appearance and is what is commonly used on
jewellery, tap ware, "it's the real stuff".
Copper
It has an orange appearance to it. Unless sealed with lacquer it
will tarnish. Copper is most commonly used in our plant as a
base on car parts as it has filling qualities and provides
protection against rust.
Polishing
A process used with sanding belts to cut away any markings on
the raw steel prior to plating i.e. removing scratches or pin
holes. Also used to give steel a texture which is required for
certain finishes i.e. brushed, great for brightening up
aluminium.
